A Guide to Trading

In this article I hope to share some of my more successful strategies for making money and acquiring great items for my character in the process.
1: Keep an eye on the window and watch what different items sell for.
Over time you must learn the going rate for items so you know when you are buying low and how much you can get (your profit /grin). You also want to get to know the more popular items so you can move things quickly.

I'm sure you all have seen items being sold for way below going rate and perhaps even sold some items cheap to get rid of them. The secret to making large sums of money may seem somewhat obvious however, it can be quite difficult.

2: Learn the going rate

When trading always keep in mind that you are looking for items at going rate or better *note you must know the going rate on objects to be successful* Lets use the example of a silver ruby veil and a sheer bone mask. If I were to see a sheer bone mask *around 300pp rite now* for 250 i would buy it rite away and ask 325pp OBO however if they wana sell it for 300pp they may or may not take a silver ruby veil for it. However first you would offer the veil and if refused then offer to throw in 50pp and the veil. If they say no go on to other things however they may say yes. In which case you just made a profit. While you still have to sell the Sheer bone mask you may be able to sell it for 325, 300, or trade it for something better.

3: Consider all items not just things your character can use.

4. Do a Price Check
Don't be afraid to take risks however don't risk too much. A price check is a great tool. The in game economy is all over, some prices have sky rocketed and others are dropping. You can use this to your advantage as well.

Always try and buy low and sell high however, some items are just mistakes and you have to get out of them. On these try and trade them for other items of the same value but more easily saleable. Or take a hit and let people know your dumping it! Some catch phrases such as IM DUMPING IT AT A LARGE HIT GRAB IT WHILE YOU CAN. Or SALE OVER 300pp BELOW GOING RATE! Etc. If your selling something cheap don't be afraid to let people know. 5. Include the Stats Also i have discovered that including the items stats help the sale for example if two people are selling a forest loop like so:

Glister auctions: WTS Forest Loop 1k
You auction: WTS/T Forest Loop Ac 2 +3 wis, dex, and agil 1k! Great earing for wis users!
People are more likely to buy from you.

6. Look for Deals-High Levels Clearing out their Vault
Keep and eye out for great deals. Also items differ in price from one continent to another. The two major sale zones are East Commons, and Greater Faydark. High levels often clean out their bank accounts dumping items for going rate or cheaper. While playing keep an eye on sales and don't be afraid to make offers or barter over items. Make an offer it can't hurt and they may just be willing to sell it for it.

I would suggest making a list of items you see and what people are charging. Just because you see an item 1 time at a price it does not mean its going rate. A prime example are batskull earrings I have seen them repeatedly for 600-750pp however the going rate is 1k.

EXAMPLE:

/auction WTS Bark shield 50 pp send tells
(Humm the going rate on that is 300-400 pp to the right buyer)
/tell seller what are the stats (It is always a good idea to ask unless you know)
/tell buyer (gives you the stats)
/tell seller I only have 29 pp would you consider selling it for that?
/tell buyer ok meet me at the tunnel
/tell seller Great omw

several days may pass

/auction WTS Bark Shield 350 pp OBO (or best offer)
/tell you Would you take a Charred Guardian Breastplate for it?
(Humm that Breastplate is worth 500 pp)
/tell buyer sure that will work where are you? Can you meet at the (pick closest location)

/auction WTS Charred Guardian Breastplate 500 pp OBO
/tell you Would you take an Ivy Tunic for it?
(Humm what is an ivy tunic worth?
/ooc price check on an ivy tunic
(Hopefully someone will post the going rate and you hope they are right =)
/ooc 700 pp for the Tunic
(Humm that is 200 pp profit)
/tell buyer Sure that sounds great Where can I meet you?
/auction WTS Ivy Tunic great Ranger item (give stats) 700pp OBO
/tell you would you take a brown chitin protector?
(Wow that is worth 1 - 1.5 K)
/tell buyer Sure that would be great
(Yahoo Baby I just made pver 1,000 K on my 29 pp investment)

By being patient, knowing the value of items, and carefully trading items you can make a sizeable profit. Now it doesn't always work out this great and your profit varies on items. Sometimes you may need to throw in some platinum or combine several items to get a good trade. Sometimes someone dumps a difficult to sell item on you and you only realize it when you go to sell it and it won't move. We all learn from these mistakes.

Hope this helps you! -Glamdering
